Boundary Trail Railway is proud of our safety record, and we continue to be a leader in safe operations and business practices.
We operate under authority granted by the Province of Manitoba through the Motor Carrier Division of Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation. Authority is renewed annually, once we have demonstrated our ongoing compliance with the various federal rules and regulations governing the railway industry – visit Transport Canada for more information.
Audits of BTR’s Safety Management System, operations procedures, equipment, and infrastructure (track, bridges, signals, crossings) are performed regularly by Transport Canada, Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation, and third party engineering firms to verify our ongoing compliance.
We are an active member of Operation Lifesaver (Manitoba), a national organization focused on enhancing railway safety throughout Canada. A variety of educational resources and tools are available from OL, and their sister programs in the United States – use the following links for more information.
Crossing Permits
To ensure the safe movement of over dimensional truckloads through certain railway crossings, the Province of Manitoba requires our prior approval as part of their highway permitting process. Please note that if you require BTR approval for an over dimensional truck movement the applications are now found on line. Visit https://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/mcd/
